ZEN STATEMENT: "Kaoru Dolls"


For years, Korea and Japan seemed to countries bound to clash. Coexistence between two powerful neighbors of different cultures so often was a source of the outbreak of conflict. Little by little the situation has been changing in favor of a more tolerant and mixed. This is the case of the artist Kaoru Kobori, born in Japan, married to a Korean resident in Spain, currently exhibited in Madrid, where he lives. "Kaoru Dolls" is an outstanding example of their work. A score of dolls created with different materials such as porcelain, paper and fabric, between 15 and 50 cm high, reflecting the three influences of the artist: Japan, Korea and the West.
Children and the elderly childish wearing kimonos, hanbooks or ruffled dresses. From Hina Ningyo, dolls representing the ancient court of Japan and March 3 each participating in the Hina Matsuri, the Doll Festival, a celebration with over a thousand years old, from "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings "inspired by the story of the same name by Gabriel García Márquez in which a fallen angel on earth, wounded and dying, is mistreated by humans, through a couple of callose straight out of the Gypsy Ballads.
